Sodium salicylate is a sodium salt of salicylic acid. It is used in medicine as an analgesic and antipyretic. Sodium salicylate also acts as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and induces apoptosis in cancer cells and also necrosis. It is also a potential replacement for aspirin for people sensitive to it.
Application: Sodium salicylate, a white to pinkish white powder, is used for antiseptics preparations and as a preservative. In addition to its analgesic and antipyretic properties, it possesses keratinolytic properties and fungicidal properties. Itself and its derivatives are used in the treatment of hyperkeratotic, dandruff, ichthyosis and psoriasis as well as in the treatment of fungal skin infections such as tinea.
